I would say 90% of Hannibal’s suits were bespoke, and there’s a
fantastic tailor in Toronto who built all of them. He’s so shockingly
good. He came in and measured me once and then made me a Hannibal suit,
and it fit so perfectly… better than any suit I have ever put on my
body.

So we had these great tailors in Toronto building suits from scratch for
Mads Mikkelsen and my edict for him was, three-piece plaid suits. That
was going to be the main voice because I wanted it to be flashy enough
for the devil to get his due, yet refined enough that he is able to move
amongst us with his peacock feathers

I love to dress up. I love to put on a suit
but I don’t wear a suit every day. Generally I like to wear nice clothes
but I think when I start directing I’ll be one of those directors who
wears a suit every day. (x)

Okay but Will literally could have just gutted Hannibal and tossed him off that cliff so easily tho. He could have made good on his promise to kill him and he could have walked away and gone back to his life with Molly and Walter safely. The dragon would have been dead. Hannibal would have been dead… Logically this is what he should have wanted. This is what he claimed to want for damn near the entire episode.

But what did he do instead? He reached out for Hannibal and fucking embraced him. He looked him in the eyes and he told him “it’s beautiful,” and he wasn’t afraid of how good it made him feel, finally. And I think he almost had himself convinced for a long time that he could let Hannibal go, that he could kill him and forget about him if the time came, but in that moment he remembered that being with Hannibal is the only thing that truly makes him feel alive.

And whether Will intended to fake their deaths by throwing them off that cliff, or if he truly did just want them to die together in that moment, in each others arms, finally at peace with who they are together, he wanted them to be together, and that is the most important thing.

I don’t like to think that these two have changed each other, but rather that they have brought out things in one another they would normally suppress and fight and feel is contrary to their true natures. Will is compassionate, but he is also capable of taking great pleasure in violence. Hannibal takes great pleasure in violence, but when it comes to Will he is capable of so much love and compassion.

Hannibal called that compassion an inconvenience, but he looks at Will with such love and adoration, he touches him so tenderly, and it’s clear that he has come to terms with the fact that he does not have to fight his love for him. Likewise, Will finally came to terms with the fact that he does not have to fight the pleasure he gets from killing with Hannibal, and he does not have to fight the fact that being with him is what he truly wants.

The duality that exists within both of them when they are together is beautiful. They killed Dolarhyde with as much passion as they then tenderly expressed to one another once it was done. I think they are finally in a place where they can truly be equals now, because they have both come to understand and embrace the very best and the very worst parts of each other, and despite everything that has happened they are so very much in love…

A Break Room Chat

avegetariancannibal:

“Will Graham got married,” Brian said. He swigged his coffee in the break room and pretended to read the paper.

Jimmy snorted around his mouthful of sandwich. “I didn’t think Dr. Bloom would allow that in a million years.”

Brian folded down his paper so he could show his frown. “What?”

“Y’know, nuptials behind bars?” Jimmy waggled his brows. “Think they got a conjugal visit for their honeymoon?”

Brian stared at him until he finally realized what he’d meant. “Dude! No! Graham didn’t marry Lecter!” He lowered his voice when he noticed people were looking his way. “Wait—were they ever a thing? Officially?”

“Not officially,” Jimmy said, lowering his voice, too. “I mean, I don’t think they had toothbrushes at each other’s houses or anything. It would’ve come up at the trial, don’t you think? I am more than a little positive something was going on, though.”

“Yeah?” Brian scooted his chair closer and lowered his voice further still. “Think they were kinky? I bet they were kinky as fuck.”

Jimmy scooted his own chair. “My theory is they were actually 100% boring. Saved all their wilder urges for heart sculptures and cave bear displays. Probably went home and snuggled while watching Downton Abbey.”

“No way!” Brian had never been more scandalized.

“Freddie Lounds did call them Murder Husbands, not Murder Lovers,” Jimmy said. “Implies a certain level of domesticity, doesn’t it? Husbands.”

Brian rolled his eyes. “Domestic doesn’t mean boring, necessarily.”

Now Jimmy looked really interested. He leaned forward, his elbows on the table. “Do tell.”

“I dunno,” Brian said. He brought to mind the plot of some pornos he’d seen over the years. “Like, they could have been cooking together and then banging on the kitchen table, or–or tying each other up with apron strings or whatever. I’m just spitballing here! I don’t know what they did!”

Jimmy spread his hands in a conceding gesture and went back to eating his sandwich.

“Anyway, he didn’t marry Lecter,” Brian said, returning to the original subject. “But I bet for sure that cannibal freak’s totally lose his shit once he finds out.”

“Oh, for sure,” Jimmy agreed. "I hope Dr. Bloom tightened up the security.“

Brian neatened the paper he hadn’t really read and left it on the table for the next batch of employees who’d be showing up. He pushed himself away from the table and gathered up his coffee cup as well as the used napkins from Jimmy’s lunch and took them to the recycling bin.

Jimmy stopped him before they parted ways for different parts of the lab. “Don’t forget you’re coming over this weekend to binge that new show with me.”

“That one that all the reviews said was just a copy of Downton Abbey?” Brian asked with a snort.

“That’s the one,” Jimmy said.

Brian winked at him. “Wouldn’t miss it.”
