tchaikovsky is proud

In case anyone is baffled by this, there’s a Tchaikovsky piece in which there’s supposed to be a loud sound but he never specified what you should use to make that sound. People have done all kinds of weird shit depending on how they think the sound should, well, sound. Hitting a large piece of wood with a sledgehammer is a relatively conventional one.

@drakanekurashiki

Hey everyone.

This isn’t Tchaikovsky. This is a piece called “Ricochet” (Ping Pong Concerto) by Andy Akiho. It’s described as a concerto for ping pong, violin, percussion and orchestra. Please enjoy it in full, it is a trip:

Also, the piece you’re thinking of with the loud, unspecified sound is probably also not Tchaikovsky (At least, I don’t recall him having one), but Mahler 6, which requires a sound that is “brief and mighty, but dull in resonance and with a non-metallic character (like the fall of an axe).” Usually translated to a huge fucking hammer.

(ETA, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture explicitly calls for a battery of cannons, and is only played by not-cannons because cannons can be a little tricky to get ahold of, and firing them indoors is frowned upon in some establishments)
