When Hannibal met Will in Jack’s office that first time, what was he hoping to accomplish with his LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR BONE ARENA, GUY I JUST NOW MET line of socializing?
Was he trying to annoy Will a little? Get him off balance? Push him to see what he was like when personal boundaries were crossed?
Did he think for some reason Will would respond well to that kind of conversation?
Or did he go in there with little to no expectation at all, no real plan, and just kind of lost track of himself as soon as he met that fluffy grump that smelled of Old Spice and dogs?
I mean, ostensibly he was there for Jack, to suss out Will, but I’m talking about his own reasons
I honestly think all of these are true. He wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to get on the good side of the lead guy hunting him. He wanted to size up this weird dude everybody’s talking about and Alana knows but won’t talk about. He is of course going to be Hannibal and play it all by ear. He wants to actually learn how Will works. And once he discovers he quite like how Will works, he wants Will to know he understands him more deeply and immediately than anybody else ever has, despite Will putting up forts left and right.
He probably pushed a little too hard for a first date, which is why he needed to gift wrap a crime scene to get the second date.
